Street Photography

There are so many things that you can see on the streets. When you look at them through your lens that creates a new way for you to look at the world around you. You can see it in full vivid color or you may choose to look at in black and white. Those options are completely left up to your brand of creativity.

When I was first learning photography and taking good photos I learned using black and white film. It was cheap and there are many things that you can see in black and white that you cannot see in a color photo. Over the years I grew to love black and white photography. I just think that the photos are classics.

Getting back to shooting on the street, there is nothing like having the world as your photographic canvas. The fact is unless you go looking for something specific you never know what will catch your eye. I try to look at anything and everything!

Catching that piece of paper blowing in the wind or the soldier getting on the bus with all of his gear. The lady with her little dog in her purse, you just never know. The possibilities are endless. It just depends on what your creative eye deems worthy.

Personally I love being out on the streets with my camera being able to capture life as it happens. You just never know, you could be captured in a photo while you were capturing someone or something else in a photo.

My favorite and one of the most iconic street photos ever taken is of the sailor kissing the woman in the white dress in Times Square on V-J Day August 14, 1945. Photographer Alfred Eisentaedt capturing life as it happened. He probably had no idea that 70 plus years later that folks would still be speaking about his iconic photo. Greta Zimmer was the young lady in the photograph died at the age of 92 in 2016. George Mendonsa the sailor in the photo was 95 years old when he died in 2019. When the photo was taken George was on his first date with his wife of 71 years Rita Mendonsa. She is actually in the photo as well. She can be seen behind George's left shoulder.

Just goes to show that you never know what you will see in the street. Remember keep those shutters clicking.
